Geïnspireerd door de orale traditie van hoorspelen, zoomt Dianne Weller, een Australische theatermaakster en performer, in op louter het gehoor, For Your Ears Only, en brengt ze een onzichtbaar theaterstuk op een lege scène.
For Your Ears Only vermengt de twee werelden van theater en radio. Zo ontstaat iets als de uitbeelding van een radio-uitzending, of een nieuw theatergenre: radiophonic theatre.
Hoofdingrediënt is een radioprogramma waarin kritische commentaren bij het theaterstuk Our House van Superamas worden uitgezonden. Andrew Haydon (the Guardian), Pieter T’Jonck (De Morgen, Etcetera… ) en Elke Van Campenhout (a.pass artistic research centre) zijn de critici van dienst. Door hun commentaren en door de associaties die geluid en muziek oproepen, krijgen personages en verhaallijnen vorm.
Deze originele en veelgelaagde geluidsshow is een streling voor het oor, en een feest voor de verbeelding.”
Bij het creëren van dit stuk mocht ik zowat alles uit de kast halen: dialogue recording & editing, field recording, foley acting, electro-akoestische compositie, 12 channel surround mixing en live multichannel audiodistributie. Het naspelen van de ‘body double murder scène’ bij Nick Peeters leverde hilarische momenten op. Voor de field recordings trok ik met Dianne enkele weken naar Australië, waar we tijdens een residentie in Critical Path Choreographic Research Centre ook werkten aan de musique concrète voor het stuk. Terug in België vond ik in Ludo Engels een aangename partner in crime; hij leverde mee materiaal aan voor de compositie.
We speelden deze voorstelling in de Beursschouwburg Brussel, Buda Kortrijk WE LOVE RADIO! festival en Monty kultuurfactorij Antwerpen.

Showcasing an invisible play on an empty stage and, in doing so, resurrecting the radio play in a performative way. Radio Drama or the ‘hear play’ is synonymous for action, comedy, fantasy and of course drama. Mixing the two worlds of theatre and radio to create a new form, radiophonic theatre.
Similar to a radio show, the Superamas has a reputation for playing on these elements and we discovered a new exclusive work of theirs tentitled Our House.
